Melbourne Our top 5 Footy Pubs

Top 5 places to watch the footy

Mona Castle Hotel

You know a pub is serious about its footy, when you learn they sponsored recently retired Western Bulldog player, Matthew Boyd, for years. Just a classic backstreet pub with a nice little sports bar out the back, ensuring there is plenty of room. Just don't insult the doggies.

Great Northern Hotel

While it does have a lot of Carlton FC history, the West Australian owner has made it his own, and the Freo train comes in droves. Heaps of screens are around the place and what has to be one of the best tap lists around, there is a 100% chance the GNH will be pumping.

Napier Hotel

This is our most controversial pick, as the TV doesn't even have sound! But we think this is the best front bar in town, and as former Fitzroy Football Club supporters it holds a very special place in our hearts. Sitting on a stall at the front bar, watching the footy at the Napier is one of life's simple pleasures. With a menu full of huge portioned fare (get the bogan burger...we dare you), some excellent craft beers from local brewers, and a nice little park across the road for a kick, this is a great (though very snug) option. Just don't expect the sound to be turned on.

London Tavern Hotel

Beer might be on the pricey side, however the beer garden is one of the city's best, and has a few plasmas dotting around which make it even better. Also such is its proximity to the MCG, you'll be able to hear a few roars on the bigger occasions (three seconds after you see it live), and there is no better feeling when your team wins at the 'G'. and you walk back to the London just to see the delayed telecast. YELLOW AND BLACK!

Limerick Castle Hotel

Old school simplicity, with a raft of cheap pub classics (Chicken Kiev never gets old) on the blackboard. Head to the ""bistro"" on the right for prime position to watch the game. They don't make pubs like this anymore! Be sure not to insult the kangaroos!
