Choosing a university to attend can be a difficult process. One must weigh certain factors. Prestige, Location, Quality of Teaching or perhaps you just got crap marks and have little choice, etc.
But when it comes right down to it, perhaps the most significant deciding factor in Melbourne's best universities is their proximity to pubs.
Here is our guide.
Melbourne Uni
The Union Bar isn't the most appealing place but we are big fans of Tsubu Bar. Great beer garden under the trees and a nice little happy hour every weekday. Also the campus is surrounded by good pubs including Prince Alfred's, The Clyde, Naughton's Parkville Hotel and The Corkman.

Australian Catholic University
Being in Fitzroy is a real asset. While the campus itself doesn't have anything of note, around it pubs such as The Gertrude, Workers Club, Wilde Bar and The Napier Hotel are just minutes away. Catfish is a winner on Mondays!

RMIT
City location is a big plus with many watering holes nearby. We didn't rate this higher as students have to compete with city workers, and lets face it, they can be annoying...no offence. Especially close is the Lounge (which has great Student specials) and Father's Office and the Asian Beer Cafe, which are big players in the cheap eats stakes.

Swinburne (Hawthorn)
Being on Glenferrie Road there are lots of watering holes including the Glenferrie Hotel, etc around, though most acknowledge Casey's Nightclub (Cheers) as the university's unofficial headquarters.
PUB ENTER SCORE: 69.75
Victoria University (Footscray)
Some decent pubs this side of town. The Station has some really good food going for it, while The Reverence has good music and great mexican fare. Closeby is the Mona Castle, which in our top 50.
PUB ENTER SCORE: 68.50
Monash Caulfield
Has the Gryph which is always empty, but Mama Dukes café tends to have some life to it. Across the road the Racecourse Hotel which reopened last year and does a weekday lunch special.
PUB ENTER SCORE: 52.25
The racecourse recently closed leaving Caulfield students one option less.
La Trobe Uni
Eagle Bar is the haven for those choosing to go here, and luckily it's pretty good when the place is packed. Sadly this happens about twice a year. There used to be nothing of note nearby until Kooinda Brewery started opening on Friday nights and offering $10 jug specials. Thank god for that!
PUB ENTER SCORE: 50.15
Monash Clayton
Yes there is the Griff which is ok, but we'd rather study in Wagga Wagga then catch the train to Huntingdale, then the bus to what really is a quite depressing campus..
